Last night's FOTD with No7 lashes

Hello ladies hope you are all well and have had a nice start to 2012! Appologies for being a bit absent recently, I've just been settling back into uni and all that jazz.
Recently (well the last two nights out I've been on- and I shall be wearing them again tonight) I have been absolutly loving Boots No7 false lashes. If you havn't tried them before then now is a great time to try them out because boots are giving out the £5 No7 vouchers meaning you can pick up the lashes for just £2.50. I have taken full advantage of this deal and have picked up two pairs already and am going back today for another two!

As a girl who never usually bothers with lashes I am so impressed by the No7 falsies, the bands on the ones I tried are so thin and easy to apply and the glue they come with actually holds them in place for the whole night (no ends popping up or anything).

Trying these lashes was a bit of a HALLELUJAH moment for me because it means I am now able to wear lashes easily on nights out, knowing that I can apply them and they will stay on, and even better for £2.50!
The lashes Im wearing in these pictures are Number 30 exceptional definition (I should point out that this was my second wear of them and they were still in excellent condition) and I have also bought Number 40 Intense volume.
So here is the makeup look:

Products used:

Face:
Estee Lauder double wear foundation- shell, Bobbi brown corrector- porcelain bisque (under eyes), Collection 2000 lasting perfection concealer- 1 fair (under eyes), Too faced chocolate bronzer, Tarte Amazonian clay blush- blissful, Stila Kitten highlighter.

1960's inspired makeup look: Edie Sedgwick!

So I was feeling particularly experimental this evening and decided to give myself a 60's makeover! I am basing it on the look of the gorgeous Edie Sedgwick and watched the Pixiwoo tutorial for a little help, changing the products according to the ones I own.
Heres the Pixiwoo tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_MFaEYados
And Heres origional Edie:

Even though this picture Is in black and white I'm sure you can see that Edie certainly wasn't afraid of caking it on! Her look was all about flawless skin and big, dramatic eyes.

My Recreation: (please ignore any ugly hair or clothes, it is 11pm and I'm in my Pjs (apart from the 1st photo where I donned a 60's-ish dress for effect :)

Overall I LOVEEE this look and am really proud of the lines I managed to create. I wish the it was more wearable cause I'd wear it every day! Considering trying it on a night out to see the reaction I get..

Products used:

Face: Mac Studio fix fluid- NW15, Collection 2000 lasting wear concealer- 1 Fair, Maybelline dream matte powder- 02 rose ivory, Mac beauty powder- Oh so fair

Coral collecting

I only have a small amount of corals in my makeup collection but I have noticed that recently, the coral/orangey products are the ones im always reaching for. This may be as im feeling a bit run down with alot of uni work and I think the coral colours are helping to brighten up my face a in a more interesting way than perhaps pinks do. I am also loving brighter corals and oranges with evening looks (e.g Mac virgin isle creme colour base & collection 2000 lasting colour lipstick in 11 orange punch).
Here is my modest collection of corals, which I have a feeling will be growing larger very soon...

From top left to bottom right:

1. Benefit georgia

2. Pop glitter- 18

3. Collection 2000 lasting colour lipstick- 11 Orange punch

4. Mac tartan tale lipstick- Cut a caper

5. Topshop lipglaze- Tropic (only £1!)

6. Mac dazzleglass- Smile

7. Benefit silky powder eyeshadow- shallow

Valentines FOTD and FOTN

So this valentines day was abit of a strange one for me.. I spent the day in the library doing essay reading..(shakespeares sonnets if you must know.. fitting I suppose) and in the evening me and my boyfriend were supposed to go for a romantic meal we had prebooked, but in true student fashion we ended up getting chinese and going clubbing instead lol.
Even though the day was only spent in the library, I still felt the need to do a little valentines day look, which I course vamped up in the evening.
Here are my two looks:

As you can see this is quite a subtle, girly pink look which I think was suitable for valentines day time :)

Eyes: Mac brow pencil- spiked, Mac prep + prime eye-light, a pearly white shadow from my pixi palette, Urban decay e/s- shotgun, Rimmel kohl liner- 071 pure white, Pixi gel liner- Onyx, Mac plush lash mascara

Evening:

I dont know if you can see from these two pics but I put a line of gold glitter liner along the outside of the catseye of the black liner.

Face: Mac studio fix fluid- NW15, Maybelline mineral concealer, Mac MSF- soft and gentle, Barry M blusher- red (a tiny bit of).

Eyes: Mac brow pencil- spiked, Mac prep + prime eye-light, A very light creamy gold shadow from pixi palette, Mac mineral eyeshadow duo- odd couple (the gold), Urban decay eyeshadow- midnight cowboy strikes again, Pixi gel liner- onyx, Mac kohl pencil- smoulder, 17 starry eyes glitter liner- stardust, Mac plush lash mascara

Celeb makeup look- Rhianna 'what's my name'

I have never considered myself the biggest Rhianna fan, as her music isn't particularly to my taste, but there's something about her song 'what's my name' that I just cant shake! What made me love the song more is when I watched the video and saw the lovely makeup look she was sporting. If you've seen the video doubtless you noticed the makeup too as it is so pretty, girly and fresh.
(screenshots if you havn't:)

I tried my best to take decent screenshots from the music vid so I hope you get the idea. A very pretty lilac eye and pink lip.

Here are pictures of my attempt:
Sorry if the light doesn't show the colours very well, I'm still getting to grips with all the settings on my new camera.

Heres what I used:
Face
-Mac studio fix fluid- NW 15
-Maybelline mineral pure cover concealer- 02 natural
-MUA blusher- shade 1
-Benefit that gal brightening face primer

Eyes
-Benefit eyebrow pencil- medium
-A Pixi pearly white eyeshadow on brow bone
-Urban decay eyeshadow- Asphyxia (all over lid and under eye)
-Collection 2000 colour intense solo- 12 playful punk (mixed in with asphyxia)
-Pixi gel liner- Onyx (very thin line on lid lash line)
-Rimmel white eyeliner (waterline)
-Mac plush lash mascara

Lips
-Mac viva glam gaga lipstick
-Benefit Life on the A list lipgloss

Did you notice this look of Rhianna's yourself?
If so did you like it?

January favourites

From top left to bottom right:

1. Ghd opulence mask for colour treated hair- This mask is gorgeous smelling, I wouldnt even know hot to describe the smell but its yummy and makes my hair probably the softest its ever been, managing also to retain my dyed hair colour. love.

2.Ghd guardian shampoo for colour treated hair- also lovely smelling with a pear-like scent. Makes my hair soft enough to go without conditioner

3.Superdrug vitamin illuminating moisture cream- I've seen this product praised all over beauty blogs, and for good reason. There is a lovely pearly sheen to this, perfect for a foundation base or even alone. Nice coconut scent, and at around £2.50 you can't go wrong!

4. Vaseline cocoa butter- lovely smell and works well. My current go to lip conditioner. (see soft sweet lips post)

5.Rimmel 5 in 1 topcoat and base coat- Not sure what the 5 in 1 means, as it is only a topcoat and base coat, but as those two it works brilliantly. Reasonable price and stops nails from chipping very well.

6.Mac pro longwear lipcreme in prolong- Perfect red lip colour, stays on very well and even when it fades it fades into a nice colour.

7.Mac dazzleglass cream in radiant jewels- I am a fan of the scent and creamy texture of the dazzleglass creams, and this one is my favourite. Lovely red colour and I like coating it on top of prolong for a bit of glossy glamour.

8. Benefit back to the fuschia and 24K from the All you need is gloss kit- all three of the double ended glosses in this kit were lovely wearable colours but this one was my favourite and I often have it my everyday handbag. The size is also the perfect size to take in a small bag ona night out, with two colours that could be worn in the day or night. I have discovered that back to the fuschia looks lovely over Mac Virgin Isle.

9. Mac 187 brush (from tartan tale brush set)- Love this brush and perfect size to take out in handbag to top up with MSF or blush through the day.

10. Mac cream colour base in Virgin Isle- There has also been a lot of blogger hype over this product and again for good reason. Amazing bright coral colour looks lovely on cheeks and lips (see small mac & benefit haul post) I know this is hard to get hold of at the moment because its in such high demand, but hang in there and keep looking!

11. Mac mineral eyeshadow duo in Odd couple- I know I'm late on this one but I got it for christmas and am loving it. Lovely two colours, both can be worn together or on separate looks.

What are some of your January favourites?

Rachys routine & FOTN

Last night I went out (won't mention where I went, cause it werent the classiest of joints *cough* Oneils *cough*) and got rather merry. But before I went out I took a few pictures of my preparations for my night out. here it goes:

Step 1- Lush Bath

If you saw my christmas haul post you will have seen the amazing lush hamper I got for christmas, and my chosen bath bomb for my pre-nightout bath was Sex bomb. I love having a lush bath before I get ready because when I smell good I feel good :)

Step 2 (and the most important step): Makeup

I went for quite a neutral face look with brown smokey eyes. And here's what I used:

Face: Mac studio fix fluid- NW15, Maybelline pure cover mineral concealer, Mac mineralize skin finish- soft and gentle, Mac cream colour base- virgin isle

Eyes: Benefit brow pencil- medium, Mac prep+prime eye- light, a shimmery cream colour eyeshadow from pixi palette, Mac mineral eyeshadow duo- odd couple (the gold), Urban decay eyeshadow- smog & twice baked, Mac pearglide eye pencil- lord it up (blended into crease and under eye), Mac eye kohl- I get no kick (in corners), Pixi gel liner- onyx, Mac plush lash-black

Lips: Mac venemous villains lipstick- innocence beware!, A gold benefit gloss

Step 3: Straighten hair & choose Outfit

My chosen outfit was this strange stringy top from newlook with an m&s black vest underneath, covered by a Uniqlo blazer cardi. On the bottom I was wearing a simple black jerser skirt with black tights.
Step 4: Drink of choice

Alot of people think im an old man for my love of gin, but I just can't help it! Thats why my drink of choice will always be Bombay saffire gin and tonic (or bitter lemon) Obviously as a student I cant afford the good stuff all time time, but my fellow gin loving mummy got me the bombay saffire for christmas :)

Step 5: Go out, Have a good time, Get drunk.

Hope you enjoyed!

Small Mac & Benefit haul- swatch & pics

So today on my lunchbreak I finally got down to Mac to buy the one item I have been lusting over from the Mac stylishly yours collection: Cream colour base in Virgin Isle.
I also purchased the only item I really wanted from the Cham pale collection: I get no kick Eye Kohl.
I may then have stumbled into benefit in search of a peachy coloured eyeshadow, which is when I bought a benefit discontinued silky powder eyeshadow in a yummy peach colour shallow. At £6.25 I felt this was a necessary buy ;)
Mac I get no kick eye kohl, Benefit silky powder eyeshadow- shallow, Mac cream colour base- virgin isle

Swatches:

I get no kick, shallow, virgin isle, virgin isle blended

When I applied all the products together:

Verdict:
-I love love love Virgin isle and knew I would. The colour looks great on the lips as well as cheeks (worn on both in picture)

-Very happy with my Benefit sale buy, nice silky powder and lovely matte peach colour.

And how could you not like a pretty pearl coloured eye pencil- nice in the waterline and perfect for brightening corners of eyes.

Thanks

Super xmas haul/ 2010 faves

First of all I would like to wish you all a happy New Year! May it be filled with gorgeous makeup and beauty products.
And second of all I would like to appologise for being a lazy/distracted blogger over the Christmas period, I have had lots of posts in mind but either can't find my memory card or have been away or working. And this all stops now. I am going to fill the rest of my christmas holiday with lots of blogging to show off all my pretty new makeup and other beauty products.
As I said there was so much I wanted to write about but got distracted so this is going to be sort of a 2 in 1 blog. Firstly I am going to show you all my cosmetic-related christmas prezzies (which i should have done a week ago) and hauled items then i'll go onto a post inspired by my friend Kelsey's latest post...my 2010 favourites. Hope this is not too much to take in!
First of all here is the lovely Lush (& other things) hamper I found waiting for me xmas morning from santa/mummy
Amazing isn't it?!

Secondly Here are the makeup prezzies that were gifts from my boyfriend and dad:

From left to right: Mac prolong wear lipcrme- prolong, Mac pearlglide eyeliner-petrol blue, Mac lipglass- radiant dazzleglass, Mac dazzleglass- funtabulous, Mac mineral eyeshadow trios & duo- blue my mind, odd couple, style influencer, Mac blush- style, Mac studio fix fluid- NW15, Mac plush lash mascara, eyelash curlers, maybelline pure matte powder, Rimmel nail treat top coat and base coat, Rimmel soft kohl-white, Benefit all you need is gloss kit, Mac tartan tale brush kit

And here are the things I bought myself, most of them sale things but some just damn good deals!

from top/left to right:

-All Lush xmas bits were half price and although i clearly have enough, i couldnt resist these 3!, This pixi eyeshadow palette cost me £20 which i think is pretty good value, 3 makeup acadamy things, each item was only £1 and superdrug has a 3 for 2 offer across all cosmetics at the moment, the two pixi fairy dust's were only £1 each in the sale, And lastly a barry m blush 'cause i love the colour!

And these beauties have been my 2010 favourites:

From left to right (in no particular order):

  1. Mac tartan tale lustre lipstick- cut a caper: love this colour, great for every day wear.
  2. Mac mineralize skin finish- soft and gentle: I cannot praise this product enough, it gives a gorgeous glow and I will not stop reccomending it to people.
  3. Maybelline mineral concealer- After years of searching I have settled on this concealer. Its the perfect colour for my skin, a nice formula and cheap
  4. Mac venemous villains mineralize eyeshadow- she who dares: I was so excited when this first came out, because as you can see the colours are gorgeous and glittery. My justification for buying this is because I am a student (and you know all about the student nightlife) it will get a lot of wear on nights out, and that it has.
  5. Benefit eyebrow pencil- medium: This is the first brow pencil Ive ever had but it works very well for me. The colour matches, it goes on nicely and stays and (i hope) looks good. The only downer to this is that ive been through so many of it in the year and at £14 it is a tad pricier than i would like
  6. Mac eye kohl- smoulder. If you are going to have one black eyeliner-make it this one. It stays put and is perfect for smudging (again, good for smokey eyes on nights out)
  7. My two Mac pearlglide eyeliners in Lord it up and Undercurrant- I love these to death. They are lovely and smooth going on and once set they stay very well. Not to mention the gorgeous colours.

Thanks for reading!
